The first lockdown was brutal, the current one has seemed more so. Travel is still difficult so we still live through thoughts and dreams. These paintings are about the Mediterranean experience, the colours are as always, vibrant, however for me there is a new poignancy. They capture the sights and sense of Italy and France.

Rich colours and glorious taste come togther in this painting
This small study plays with light and colour. We see because we make sense of the reflections that surfaces create from the light. Colours happen because of what is taken away by the surfaces that the light hits.
In the afternoons the light plays on the olive tree branches as they cascade from the trees. Everything is fluid, Naples yellow blends with greys and perfect greens.
This small study captures the view up towards St.Giorgio. The strong colours capture the heat and light. The only thing missing is the sound of the crickets.
