Venice first came into my life eighteen years ago. It tumbled into my world, wrapped in a sea of expectation. The air was still chill with the damp from the lagoon as I stepped onto the platform at Santa Lucia and out onto Piazzale Roma (according to Google maps.) Never having visited before I had imagined the fashion police would stop me from entering if I was anything less than elegant. The reality was that any Italian worth their heritage was still wearing a heavy coat and at least two scarves. Yes, dear reader I froze.

Time has had to pass for me to be able to see Venice with its alleyways and tiny bridges. Early Easters are by their nature cold, even though as I write this, sunshine is pouring through my open door. Now, I to hang onto my coat. My concession to the changing season is that my scarf is thinner.
