A corner of Villa Pisani

Villa Pisani Steps and Door

This is a painting I needed to paint. Sometimes a moment speaks and it haunts you. Before afternoon turns into evening, life seems to draw breath. Solitary becomes lonely, expectations merge with shadows, to leave the onlooker wondering.

The empty chair waits, the heat fades and there is a chill in the air. This stone has seen harvest, wedding parties and echoed to laughter and sadness in equal measure. The door is locked, the windows barred, as is the way in Italy. The question is , ‘to what?’
